Mrs. Kit Man Shum
DSC Laser & Skin Care Center was born out of Kit Man’s passion for spreading beauty and wellness, a commitment evidenced by her eponymous skincare line, DSC, and her status as a Registered Cosmetician under the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.
Before establishing DSC Laser & Skin Care Center, Kit Man created San Marino Enterprises, Inc., a beauty product research and distribution company, in 1991. It was during this time that she established the DSC skincare line. As the popularity of her skincare line grew, distribution expanded from the greater Los Angeles area to the United States and finally to Asia
In addition to her work sharing beauty, wellness, and health, Kit Man is also dedicated to serving the public through community service for the past 30 years in the greater Los Angeles area. Kit Man has also been volunteering at the Herald Christian Health Center in San Gabriel for the past 27 years for its cancer patients program and orphanage program. She is now a member of the board of directors at Herald Christian Health Center (HCHC), a non-profit community health care clinic. For the Look Good Feel Better program, Kit Man volunteers at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, and HCHC in San Gabriel.
She is the first bilingual, Chinese-English volunteer makeup instructor in southern California for the “Look Good Feel Better” program, a public service support program for people with cancer. The program was created in conjunction with the Look Good Feel Better Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the Professional Beauty Association. Kit Man is also a volunteer makeup instructor for the first Mandarin-based, Chinese breast cancer support group in the US, nicknamed the “Joy Luck Club.”
Additionally, for the past 30 years, Kit Man has organized and spoken quarterly at church and community events to promote wellness, anti-aging, and a healthy lifestyle. A portion of the proceeds from her skincare line is donated to Chinese orphanages sponsored by Chinese Christian Herald Crusades (CCHC). Over the last decade, Kit Man and DSC Laser & Skin Care Center’s donation and fundraising efforts have totaled nearly a million dollars for charity, for Kit Man believes that it is more important to give than to receive.
Kit Man has been married to her husband, Dr. Tony K. Shum for going on 28 years. They have two children and reside in San Marino, California. Dr. and Mrs. Shum believe in learning and continue their education by traveling the world. In her spare time, Kit Man enjoys gardening and playing badminton. She attends church in her neighborhood and helps to spread the gospel.
