Rejuran is one of, if not the most famous, PDRN and PN product ranges in the world, thanks to recent social media popularity. While it is not new by any means, social media can propel existing products and treatments to new heights. Rejuran initially began as a clinical-use, injectable PDRN and PN range. PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide and PN stands for polynucleotide; both are forms of DNA fragments that have wound-healing and biostimulatory properties. PDRN is generally derived from salmon sperm, while PN is derived from salmon testes. PDRN is comprised of smaller DNA molecules than PN, which is why the two treatments have different outcomes and effects.
With the recent craze for PDRN and PN, Rejuran has also expanded to topical skincare products that can be purchased by the average consumer. Understanding the difference between the Rejuran Pro line and the topical line is helpful when it comes to choosing a suitable treatment for your individual needs.
What is PDRN and PN?
Rejuran Pro Range
The Rejuran Pro range is comprised of several injectables as well as skin booster treatments. They are generally differentiated by their packaging color.
Rejuran Healing Essence
Healing Essence, or “Rejuran Healer” as it is colloquially known, is an injectable PN product. As the original injectable PN product of the line, Healing Essence is the probably the most well-known Rejuran treatment. It comes in a characteristic black box with 2x 2 mL syringes. With 2% PN, it is suitable for skin rejuvenation and deep hydration. PN is great for structural skin improvements, such as in the case of treating acne scarring or cases where more extensive biostimulatory properties are necessary.
Most notably, Healing Essence does NOT come with lidocaine numbing. This is why direct injection (straight out of the syringe) can be a bit uncomfortable. General treatment recommendation is to inject all 4cc’s evenly across the face in a grid-like fashion, with repeated treatment as necessary. PN’s high viscosity makes Healing Essence the general culprit for post-treatment skin “embossing” (injection site bumps) that can persist for a few days. Treatment providers can mix lidocaine into Healing Essence to make treatment more comfortable, but this is at the discretion of each provider.
Rejuran Healing Essence i
Healing Essence i, characteristically contained in a white box, is a PN product suitable for treating the periorbital (eye) area, especially the lower eye. This is formulated with a lower viscosity than Healing Essence to improve treatment comfort and reduce swelling around the eye area. Healing Essence i is meant to strengthen the skin of the under eyes, target fine lines, and help reduce dark circles. It does NOT volumize like a soft hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler would. Each box comes with a 1 mL syringe, with half a syringe recommended per eye. Suitable for post-microneedling, before subsequent treatment with dermal HA fillers to condition skin, or for those looking to improve skin quality of the periorbital areas. Healing Essence i is also meant to be injected in a grid-like fashion across the lower eye areas, and may result in a few days of bumpiness post-treatment.
Rejuran S
S is also a PN injectable treatment that came after Healing Essence. S comes in 1 mL syringes in a characteristic blue box. S is specifically formulated for the treatment of scars, especially atrophic acne scars, hence the “S” in the name. S is formulated to be even more viscous than Healing Essence, which allows it to volumize depressed, atrophic scars in addition to having biostimulatory effects and remodeling skin texture. S is meant for localized injection into acne scarring (can be combined with subcision and other acne scar treatments), and usually requires three or four treatments for significant improvement.
Rejuran HB
Rejuran HB stands for Hydro Booster and was developed in response to patient response to Healing Essence treatment comfort levels. HB typically comes in 1 mL syringes in a characteristic red box. HB is formulated as a combination of PN, HA, and lidocaine numbing. This makes HB more comfortable than Healing Essence straight out of the box, although lidocaine can always be mixed in to Healing Essence by a treatment provider. It has a lower PN concentration than Healing Essence does, but the inclusion of HA makes it more hydrating. HB is probably more suitable for dehydrated skin, people more sensitive to discomfort during treatment, and those looking for a more immediate “glow” (because PN generally takes a longer time to take effect).
Rejuran Skin Booster
Rejuran Skin Booster is a PDRN skin booster treatment that comes in two vials, one liquid and one powder. Upon usage, the liquid is drawn and dispensed into the powder vial, reconstituting the dry powder. This is meant to be a very fluid treatment that can be applied topically after laser resurfacing or microneedling treatments, or via a skin booster injection device. It contains PDRN, HA, and amino acids to restore and repair superficial skin. Usage of a PDRN skin booster in combination with other aesthetic treatments can have synergistic effects on wound healing and skin rejuvenation.
Rejuran Tone Up Booster
Tone Up Booster is a PDRN skin booster that contains more brightening ingredients than the Rejuran Skin Booster does. Like Skin Booster, Tone Up Booster comes in two separate vials that are mixed and reconstituted upon use. Rather than HA and amino acids, Tone Up Booster contains Vitamin C, Glutathione, and Tranexamic Acid. These ingredients have antioxidant and brightening effects; when combined with PDRN, this skin booster treatment is a great option for treating dull skin or to pair with other treatments for pigmentation.
