Aging is a natural part of life, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look and feel your best at every stage. As we age, our skin gradually loses collagen, elastin, and moisture, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, and changes in facial contours. The effects of gravity, sun exposure, and various other lifestyle factors (lack of sleep, smoking, drinking, etc.) also begin to become apparent. Just your luck, modern medical aesthetics offers a variety of non-surgical anti-aging treatments designed to help maintain healthier, firmer, and more rejuvenated skin.
At DSC Laser & Skin Care Center, serving San Gabriel and the greater Los Angeles area for twenty-one years, we believe that the best anti-aging treatments are those tailored to your unique skin concerns, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals. Whether you’re in your 30s, 40s, 50s, or beyond, understanding how your skin changes over time can help you make informed decisions about your skincare and rejuvenation journey.
30s
Your 30s are often when the first visible signs of aging begin to appear. Collagen production gradually begins to decline, leading to the beginning of volume loss in the face. Repeated facial expressions, sun exposure, and environmental stressors can contribute to fine lines, uneven skin tone, and changes in skin texture.
At this stage, focus on preventative skincare, collagen and skin support, and maintaining healthy skin. It’s much easier to maintain skin than to turn back the hands of time and make skin more youth.
Consistent Skincare
The best skincare product isn’t necessarily expensive – it’s consistency over time. Using a few key products for long term periods is an important step in skin health. Don’t forget that you have 60 chances a month to apply skincare (once in the morning and once at night), which is way more often than you can get in-clinic treatments. A gentle cleanser, adequate daily SPF, an antioxidant product, a retinoid, some sort of exfoliant, and a moisturizer suitable for your skin type is a very complete routine that can address early signs of age or sun damage.
DiamondGlow Facials
DiamondGlow is a non-invasive facial treatment that combines 3in1 exfoliation, extraction, and serum infusion. It helps improve the appearance of dullness, dryness, and uneven skin tone while supporting regular skin maintenance. The different SkinMedica Pro-Infusion Serums can be used to address various skin concerns. For example, utilizing the Even & Correct Serum can help fade hyperpigmentation or pigmentation (especially in conjunction with laser treatments).
Botox
Botox is a popular injectable aesthetic treatment that temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles responsible for expression lines. It can help soften the appearance of forehead wrinkles, frown lines, crow’s feet, and neck bands to maintain a refreshed look. For those beginning to notice dynamic wrinkles (lines that appear while animating the face) or even fine static lines (lines apparent even when the face is at rest), Botox may be an effective treatment option.
Laser Treatments
Light fractional laser treatments, such as LaseMD Ultra, are designed to improve uneven skin tone, fine lines, and overall skin texture. Laser resurfacing helps support skin renewal and collagen production with relatively minimal downtime, making them appealing options for busy individuals seeking smoother, more even complexions.
Pico laser treatments are also a great treatment option for reducing hyperpigmentation and pigmentation with relatively minimal downtime. Pico toning laser treatments can help stimulate collagen production and skin rejuvenation.
Collagen Support – XERF | RF Microneedling | Thermage | HIFU
Support collagen production with various biostimulating treatments or skin treatments such as RF microneedling, Thermage, XERF, HIFU, and more.
Genius RF combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen remodeling. This treatment can also help improve enlarged pores, acne scars, fine lines, and mild skin laxity. Because RF energy delivery is very precise in Genius, we generally recommend Genius over Morpheus8 for general anti-aging/skin rejuvenation.
XERF and Thermage are monopolar radiofrequency skin tightening treatments that help boost collagen production, tighten skin, and contour. With little to no downtime, these treatments are great to help improve the appearance of skin laxity, fine lines, and wrinkles on the face, eyes, and various body areas.
HIFU stands for high intensity focused ultrasound, and is a type of lifting and tightening skin treatment. Light HIFU treatments at shallow depths can help boost collagen production and helps reduce cell senescence, keeping skin cells turning over.
Skin Booster Treatments
Skin boosters are mesoinjection skin rejuvenation treatments designed to improve skin hydration and overall skin quality. Unlike traditional dermal fillers that primarily restore lost volume or enhance facial contours, skin boosters use dilute HA to improve skin hydration and help soften the appearance of fine lines and crepey skin. In addition to HA, skin boosters can be a cocktail of PDRN, PN, exosomes, peptides, growth factors, brightening ingredients, biostimulatory ingredients, vitamins, and more. Superficial injection all over the face allows bypassing of the skin barrier and delivery of key nutrients to the skin. They are especially popular among individuals experiencing dryness, dullness, uneven texture, and early signs of aging.
40s
As you enter your 40s, changes in collagen and elastin become more noticeable. Skin may begin to lose firmness, fine lines may become more pronounced, and the jawline or lower face may show early signs of sagging. Volume loss in the face often becomes more apparent in this decade as well.
For many, the focus shifts toward addressing volume loss and skin tightening, lifting, & collagen stimulation to help maintain youthful facial contours.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are designed to address age-related volume loss. These can be hyaluronic acid (HA) based fillers, such as the Belotero line, Juvederm line, or Restylane Line. These are injected in areas of volume loss to smooth facial contours and volumize hollow areas. These areas can include: the temples, perioral area (mouth area), eye area, jawline, neck, cheeks, and more. Dermal filler for age-related volume loss is generally injected in different areas than dermal filler for contour changes, although sometimes these areas coincide (e.g. jawline, cheeks, nasolabial folds).
Radiesse is a calcium hydroxyapatite based dermal filler, and while not HA-based, has biostimulatory (collagen-boosting) properties in addition to volumization. Radiesse can be diluted to stimulate collagen production when injected superficially; Radiesse can also be injected deeply to volumize.
Ultherapy PRIME
Ultherapy PRIME may help improve mild to moderate skin laxity in suitable individuals, particularly around the brow, jawline, and neck. By stimulating collagen production at targeted depths, this ultrasound-based treatment can provide gradual, natural-looking lifting without surgery.
Sculptra
Sculptra is an injectable biostimulatory treatment designed to gradually restore facial volume and improve the appearance of wrinkles caused by aging. Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid fillers that provide immediate volume, Sculptra is comprised of Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA), which stimulates your body’s natural collagen production over time. As collagen gradually rebuilds, skin can appear smoother, firmer, and more youthful, with natural-looking results that can last up to two years. Sculptra and HA dermal fillers can be used in conjunction to provide synergistic results. Sculptra offers a gradual approach to facial rejuvenation and skin quality improvement.
50s
In your 50s and beyond, changes in collagen, facial fat distribution, bone structure, and skin elasticity generally become more pronounced. Hormonal changes can also contribute to increased dryness, thinning skin, and reduced firmness.
The goal at this stage is often to improve skin laxity, restore facial balance, and rejuvenate the complexion while maintaining natural facial expressions. Think about overall health as well, not just skin health.
Advanced Laser Resurfacing
Accumulated sun damage, skin laxity, lines & wrinkles, and texture can be treated with more intensive laser resurfacing, such as Fraxel, Erbium, or even CO2 laser. Choose fractional treatments to reduce downtime; choose full ablative treatments for more intensive results.
Valmont Facials
Valmont Facials are premium facial treatments designed to nourish, hydrate, and revitalize the skin. Featuring high-performance skincare formulations from the renowned Swiss beauty brand Valmont, these facials help improve the appearance of dryness, dullness, fine lines, and tired-looking skin while promoting a smoother, softer, and more radiant complexion.
Valmont Facials are an excellent choice to restore moisture, improve skin radiance, or complement an existing anti-aging routine. Valmont Facials are highl suitable for dry skin, mature skin, and dehydrated skin.
Accufit Muscle Stimulation
Healthy aging isn’t just about maintaining skin, it’s also about preserving mobility and overall physical condition. Muscle mass and strength naturally decline with age, making muscle conditioning an important part of maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle. Accufit is a non-invasive muscle stimulation treatment that uses electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) to create controlled muscle contractions. By activating targeted muscle groups, Accufit can help improve muscle tone without strenuous exercise. Accufit can complement a healthy aging routine by supporting targeted muscle engagement and conditioning to help improve functional strength. While it is not a replacement for resistance training, regular exercise, or physical therapy, Accufit offers an additional option for individuals interested in maintaining muscle tone as they age.
