If you are new to getting facials or your skin is sensitive, it can be difficult to decide between different types of facials. You may have heard of HydraFacial or DiamondGlow, so what’s the difference between the two?

What is DiamondGlow?

DiamondGlow is a facial treatment from Allergan Aesthetics, the makers of Botox.  3×1 technology exfoliates to uncover new skin, extracts to deeply cleanse the skin and remove debris from pores, and infuses the skin with SkinMedica Pro-Infusion Serums. This is accomplished through a closed-looped vacuum handpiece. Vacuum suction brings treated skin to meet the diamond tip of the handpiece to be physically exfoliated while simultaneously being infused with SkinMedica medical grade serums. The handpiece suctions dirt, sebum, dead skin & other waste back into the handpiece for disposal along with the used serum.

What is HydraFacial?

HydraFacial is a different facial treatment device that utilizes chemical exfoliation with glycolic and salicylic acid over physical exfoliation (like DiamondGlow). Instead of SkinMedica Pro Infusion Serums, HydraFacial utilize different boosters to accommodate different skin concerns. The basic mechanism of HydraFacial and DiamondGlow is similar, but HydraFacial does not have a diamond tip in the handpiece for physical exfoliation.

What areas can I treat with DiamondGlow?

DiamondGlow can treat the face/neck, chest, arms, hands, back, and even booty! Because it can help with hyperpigmentation or breakouts, it’s suitable for both face and body. There is even a body handpiece for treating larger areas, such as the back.

Which SkinMedica Pro-Infusion Serum is right for me?

With several formulations of SkinMedica Pro-Infusion Serums, your aesthetician will choose one that suits your skin or even use two for multiple skin concerns. These serums are designed to clinically address specific skin concerns, whether they be: acne-prone skin, dullness, hyperpigmentation, dryness, or aging skin.

How often can I get a DiamondGlow treatment?

Because this treatment involves exfoliation, we recommend treatments no sooner than once every two weeks.

Is there any downtime or side effects from DiamondGlow?

While skin can possibly be slightly red for a few hours post-treatment, this is a non-invasive facial treatment and does not have any downtime or side effects.

My skin is sensitive, will exfoliation from DiamondGlow be too harsh for my skin?

The diamond (yes, made with real diamonds!) tips in the handpiece are interchangeable and come in varying grits. Your aesthetician will assess your skin to see which tip best suits your skin. For very sensitive areas such as the eyes and lips, a smooth tip can be used.

What happens to all the exfoliated debris?

The handpiece sucks up all the exfoliated and extracted sebum and debris into a waste jar along with the used serum. For reference, the SkinMedica serums start out totally clear!
