How is the Ultherapy treatment unique?

Ultherapy is unique because it features the ultrasound technology used in medical imaging devices. The Ultherapy device images the skin in real time, which allows treatment providers to assess skin condition and areas with collagen. This allows for precise delivery of ultrasound energy to the areas needing treatment. This energy causes the skin to regenerate and create new collagen, which is responsible for rejuvenating the skin.

What areas of the body does Ultherapy treat?

Ultherapy can treat the face, neck, and décolletage. It is possible to treat various areas of the body as well. Treatment can be done in localized areas (e.g. lower face) or over several sections (e.g. face & neck).

Who is a candidate for Ultherapy?
A good candidate for Ultherapy is someone with skin that has “relaxed” to the point of looking, and often feeling, less firm. A lowered eyebrow line or sagging skin on the eyelids, for instance, is often the first sign of “maturing” skin. Typically, those in their 30s and older who have mild to moderate skin laxity are candidates.

While Ultherapy is not a replacement for a surgical facelift, there are many people who want some lifting but are not ready for surgery, either mentally, financially, or logistically. There are also younger people who want to stay ahead of the game as well as those looking to prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery.

What results can I expect?
Following the Ultherapy procedure, the vast majority of patients will experience a noticeable lifting. Many patients also experience firmer, tighter skin that has a smoother texture and more even skin tone. While some results are apparent immediately following the procedure, the full effect develops over the course of two to three months and typically lasts for 10 to 12 months. To maintain the full results, many patients require annual touch-up procedures.
What are the possible side effects and risks associated with Ultherapy?
Compared to many other cosmetic procedures, Ultherapy poses very few risks. The procedure utilizes the same ultrasound technology that has been used in the medical community for over 50 years. The most common side effects include mild redness and tenderness in the area where the treatment was performed. Both of these are completely normal and tend to go away quickly. Some patients may also experience bruising and swelling, but these side effects are much less common. They also tend to be mild and clear up on their own.
How is Ultherapy performed?
Ultherapy is performed by a medical professional using a small handheld device. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, and there is no need for anesthesia. During the procedure, the doctor will hold the device against your skin. The device captures and projects ultrasound images of the inner layers of the skin. Looking at these images, the doctor will determine precisely where you need treatment. Using the same device, the doctor will deliver low levels of heat to those areas. The entire procedure typically takes about 30 minutes, during which time many patients feel mild warming sensations or prickling beneath the skin. In general, patients are able to obtain their desired results with just one treatment.
What is the post procedure guideline?

The recovery for Ultherapy is typically very simple. Patients are able to return to their regular day to day activities immediately following the procedure, and there are no special measures that must be taken. Immediately after the procedure, some patients have reported minor redness, but this typically goes away on its own within a few hours. There may be some swelling or tenderness that will subside within a few hours to days after treatment.

What are the advantages of Ultherapy over other similar treatments?

Unlike some of the other nonsurgical treatments for sagging skin, Ultherapy uses ultrasound technology to allow providers to see deep within the skin prior to treatment. No other high frequency ultrasound (HIFU) devices offer real-time skin visualization. This visualization leads to a safer and more precise procedure.

Ultrasound-based treatments are also safe for individuals with pacemakers or other implanted electrical devices who are not candidates for radiofrequency (RF) treatments.
