JUVÉDERM Filler Treatment Los Angeles, California

Juvéderm is the family of FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal fillers from Allergan Aesthetics, the makers of Botox. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that attracts water. When formed into a gel-like consistency and injected into the skin, it can add volume and boost hydration. Juvéderm fillers can be used to smooth facial wrinkles, enhance the contours of the face, and address age-related volume loss. The Juvéderm line includes: Juvéderm Ultra XC, Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC, Volbella XC, Vollure XC, Voluma XC, and Volux XC. These fillers come in varying consistencies, making them suitable for treatment all over the face.

Juvéderm fillers feature proprietary technologies for creating cross-linked HA fillers. Cross-linking refers to the process of adding intermolecular bonds in HA in order to create different consistencies and to increase longevity. Juvéderm Ultra and Juvéderm Ultra Plus feature Hylacross technology, where uniformly-sized HA particles are cross-linked to last up to a year. Juvéderm Ultra Plus is firmer and less flexible than Juvéderm Ultra, making Juvéderm Ultra Plus suitable for deeper injection and correction of more severe lines and folds. Juvéderm Ultra is more flexible and soft, making it suitable for treatment in the lips or for lines and wrinkles around the mouth. Volbella, Vollure, Voluma, and Volux (in order from softest to firmest) feature Vycross technology, where HA molecules of different sizes are cross-linked to last up to two years. This increased longevity is because Vycross fillers are firmer and less flexible than Hylacross fillers. Different treatment areas and initial skin conditions necessitate the use of different dermal fillers.

FAQ’s

What areas can JUVÉDERM treat?

The JUVÉDERM line encompasses several different formulations in order to treat various areas of the face. Common areas of treatment are the lips, chin, jawline, cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, parentheses lines around the corners of the mouth, vertical lip lines, hollowing in the cheeks, under the eyes, and even nose.

At DSC, our skilled injectors can treat almost any area of the face for a natural but enhanced look. JUVÉDERM is long-lasting and hydrates treat areas.

How long does JUVÉDERM last?

How long a JUVÉDERM treatment lasts depends on chosen product and area of treatment. Each product has a different firmness, which is measured in G prime (G’). In general, the higher the G prime, the longer the filler lasts. Area of treatment also plays a role in how long a dermal filler lasts. Treatment in areas of high movement or in soft tissue may not last as long as those in bonier areas. As such, JUVÉDERM treatments can last several months up to two years on average.

Can I get treated with JUVÉDERM & Botox together?

Yes, it is possible to be treated with both JUVÉDERM filler and Botox (or your choice of neuromodulator) on the same day. Areas treated with Botox should not be massaged after treatment, so dermal filler treatments always precede neuromodulator treatments for same-day treatments.

In some cases, particularly when treating the same area with both filler and Botox, it is prudent to first treat with Botox, then follow up with filler treatment two weeks later. Botox relaxes the muscles responsible for causing facial wrinkles, while filler volumizes and assists in contour changes. Repeated muscle movement in the face over time leads to the formation of static lines, which are the wrinkles or lines visible even when the face is at rest. Treating these lines with filler can help soften their appearance, but  has no effect on the underlying cause (muscle movement). Treating first with Botox freezes the responsible muscles and even softens the lines, which means less filler is necessary. Because Botox can take up to 14 days to fully kick in, separating toxin and filler treatments is sometimes recommended.

An individual consultation at DSC can help determine whether Botox, filler, both, or another treatment entirely can help you best achieve your aesthetic goals.

What is the recovery time after a JUVÉDERM treatment?

Recovery time will vary on a case-by-case basis but depends on the treatment areas, amount injected, and individual health and lifestyle factors. Recovery may include bruising, swelling/bumpiness, or soreness/discomfort at injection points for a few days to weeks.

Baby aspirin, blood thinners, fish oil, and other supplements can increase risk of bruising or the length of time that a bruise lingers. There may be bumpiness in the first few days to weeks after treatment, which will dissipate as the dermal filler settles in. It is not recommended to drink or smoke within 24 hours of initial treatment.

When do the results of a JUVÉDERM treatment become visible?

The results of a JUVÉDERM filler treatment are immediately visible, albeit with some swelling. Regardless of treatment area, all injectable treatments cause immediate swelling which can persist for several days after treatment. Some areas, like the lips and lower eye, swell more than other areas. Final results can generally be seen two-three weeks after treatment, which is usually ample time for swelling to go down, any possible bruising to fade, and for the filler to “settle” harmoniously into the skin.
