Sculptra

Sculptra addresses multiple signs of facial aging. As we age, the natural loss of facial volume and the development of hollow areas of the face can result in a more tired or sunken appearance. Because this generally happens in the lateral areas of the face such as the temples or cheeks and is hard to see face on, it can be difficult to articulate exactly why we suddenly appear “old.” Furthermore, as collagen naturally diminishes in the skin, skin loses elasticity, develops wrinkles, and begins sagging. 

As a PLLA collagen stimulator, Sculptra helps restore collagen to diminish facial volume loss and helps smooth lines & wrinkles. Think of Sculptra as a well-maintained foundation for the “house” that is the face. As the PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production in injected areas. Collagen strands rebuild gradually, helping to restore lost volume in hollow areas and providing “scaffolding” to the underlying layers to help diminish the look of wrinkles and smooth and firm appearance of skin.

Topical numbing is applied to treatment areas. Once sufficiently comfortable, a needle is used to introduce a port opening in the treatment areas. This minimizes the number of needle entry points needed for treatment. Sculptra is then injected with a cannula in a even, fanning motion manner all throughout treatment areas, ensuring even coverage. Once finished, the treatment areas are massaged to help absorption and help stimulate the collagen production process.

Minimum recommended treatments for Sculptra is your age divided by ten. For example, five treatments are recommended for someone in their fifties for age-related volume loss in the face. Each person is different; some may be candidates for more or less treatments depending on individual anatomy and skin condition.

Sculptra is FDA-approved and made of a biodegradable and biocompatible polymer called poly-L-lactic acid, or PLLA. “Biocompatible” means that it is safe and not harmful in the body. PLLA absorbs slowly in injected areas and causes a mild inflammatory triggers the collagen-generation process, gradually breaking down over weeks and months to naturally occurring components, such as lactic acid, via the process of hydrolysis.
